I found this while looking thru the TGO forum.  Mr. Hall brought this to our attention at our recent member meeting.

New Law Authorizes Veterans’ Salutes during National Anthem

WASHINGTON -- Veterans and active-duty military not in uniform can now render the military-style hand salute during the playing of the national anthem, thanks to changes in federal law that took effect this month.
“The military salute is a unique gesture of respect that marks those who have served in our nation’s armed forces,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake. “This provision allows the application of that honor in all events involving our nation’s flag.”
The new provision improves upon a little known change in federal law last year that authorized veterans to render the military-style hand salute during the raising, lowering or passing of the flag, but it did not address salutes during the national anthem. Last year’s provision also applied to members of the armed forces while not in uniform.
Traditionally, members of the nation’s veterans service organizations have rendered the hand-salute during the national anthem and at events involving the national flag while wearing their organization’s official head-gear.
The most recent change, authorizing hand-salutes during the national anthem by veterans and out-of-uniform military personnel, was sponsored by Sen. Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma, an Army veteran. It was included in the Defense Authorization Act of 2009, which President Bush signed on Oct. 14.
The earlier provision authorizing hand-salutes for veterans and out-of-uniform military personnel during the raising, lowering or passing of the flag, was contained in the National Defense Authorization Act of 2008, which took effect Jan. 28, 2008.

Yup, it's sad Sad
I'd love to still be a Ford man, but I have to put what little money I have where it will do the most good for ME.  A Toyota does that for me.  Never owned a Honda Automobile, but they are every bit as good.

I'm sure Smokepole would agree as well. Grin

If GM wants a REAL solution, they should hire a Japanese businessman and give him absolute authority.  In a few years, I might be driving a Chevrolet.  It's truly sad.

It's interesting to note, approx 75% of the Camrys in this country are made in Kentucky.  A couple of years ago when Toyota was entering NASCAR, several angry (and uninformed) men passed through the shop complaining of having foreign cars on the track with American cars.  Well, with all the outsourcing for parts that the american three do {mexico/ ford; canada/gm}  who's the real american made car???

MW, I'd like to disagree with your last paragraph, but can't.   Cry
Maybe the 'Volt' will electrify buyers  Cheesy, but I have my doubts.

I've changed tires on several at work, everyone I've talked to loves them.

....who can honestly find anything bad to say about Honda though?  From dirt bikes, cement mixers and lawn mowers, to passenger cars. Few if any have/will ever build a better engine...'cept maybe Toyota Wink Grin Grin

The "BIG THREE" of yesterday are dead.  RIP GM, Ford, & Chrysler.    It may not be very patriotic in our declining economy, but the truth is the truth.  They've been outclassed by the new big three;  Honda, Toyota, & Nissan.

Hi Bill, glad to hear you like your Ridgeline.  The only problem I've had with the tonneau cover is when I raise it, the rubber side seals hang up on the sides of the vehicle.  I took it to DWaltripHonda and they replaced some parts and now it works like it should.  I've had zero problems with the vehicle through 26K miles.  I'd buy one again.  Good luck and enjoy!  Wayne

This is for Wayne:  I just bought a Ridgeline.  What was it about the accessory tonneau cover that you said you proboably wouldn't buy again?  Any problems with the truck?  I'm very happy with mine at 5K miles.  Bill Lasser wlasser4967@charter.net
