I moved here from New Jersey a little over a year ago.  I'm surprised how many ignorant/reckless drivers are on the road.  I drive from Spring Hill to Brentwood to go to work and I lose count how many times I get cut off or see unsafe lane changes.  I thought New Jersey was a tough state to drive in but there are far more drivers on the road here in Tennessee that I see cut off people, do not use turn signals, are preoccupied with cell phones, etc, or weave in and out of traffic.

It seems like turn signals are optional on cars here.  Turn signals are a SAFETY device that are installed on cars. They are not an inconvenience.  If people would actually stop being distracted by cell phones, the radio, lunch, makeup, etc, they might actually have 2 hands on the steering allowing one to be used for turn signals.  They're pretty simple to use, you can probably find out how in the car's instruction manual.

Here's a pretty good example ... a car was swerving in and out of traffic and speeding one day when I was going to work.  The person was in such a hurry and took so many chances that when it came time to exit I-65, they were ONLY the car in front of me on the exit ramp.  I maintained my speed, stayed pretty much in the same lane except to pass and that person only made up one car length on me in about 8 miles.

People need to slow down and be less distracted while driving, because the life they may save may be MINE.

RANT ON:

I totally agree with everything that you said.  I drive from Columbia to Franklin every day on Hwy 31, and some things you just can't believe that they happened.  Yesterday morning, I was sitting at a red light in Columbia, when a car came from the other direction, slowed down and ran the red light, turning left in front of me and in front of traffic that had the green light.  Horns were blowing and cars swerved to miss the idiot and no accident occurred, but you have to wonder what he was thinking.  My main gripe is people pulling out in front of you on Hwy 31.  If there's a car length of space, they think they can pull out, into the space, when traffic is doing 55MPH.

Thankfully I don't drive to work anymore.  The family business is walking distance from home.  I cannot see how I ever made the commute.  My wife and I go out on weekends and a rather crude bumper sticker always comes to mind:  Some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them.

My biggest gripe is older people.  If they can drive, great!  There's an 82 year old man that comes in our shop all the time that could probably win an Indy race!  I think they should make you take the test over after so many years. {Young and old}  Nothing aggrevates me more than some grandma that's blind in one eye and deaf in the other   holding up traffic for miles. OR, some 17 yr old idiot trying to run her down.  Yep! Make everyone retest every 8-10 years would really trim some of the fat....or make tickets for driving w/o a license skyrocket Cheesy

i think we have so many bad drivers here because of all the yankees move down here lol. just kidding i moved down here as well and the people on the road are dangerous. if you try to change lanes with a trailer nobody will give you any room. they speed up so u can't change lanes unless you run someone over. and forget it when it starts to rain.. they either go with 90 mph on the interestate or 45 mph. crazy!!!!!
